Unity Mediation Services & Restorative Practices Facilitation and Training

Mediation is provided as a service to clients seeking to resolve disputes of all kinds.

RP Facilitation is provided in circumstances where reparation will enable parties to move forward.

RP Training is provided in organisation and community settings where restorative processes have proven benefits.

What can Mediation do for You?

Disputes tend to be driven by emotions, by hurt and anger, rather than by a wish for resolution. The quickest route to a fair and lasting outcome for disputing parties is through a settlement on terms of their own making.

  • Mediation avoids adversarial action.
  • It significantly reduces costs.
  • It resolves matters more quickly than litigation.
  • It is entirely confidential.
  • It has a non-judgmental outcome.
  • It empowers the parties to take control of the process.
  • It can preserve ongoing relationships.
  • It can allow for further engagement, if required.
  • It promotes the use of imaginative solutions.

What are Restorative Practices?

Restorative practices (RP) help us to develop and sustain strong, harmonious communities by actively developing good relationships, preventing conflict and resolving conflict in a healthy manner.

The Restorative Practice process entails having high expectations of each other while offering high levels of support for meeting those expectations. It is both a philosophy and a set of skills and techniques.

It is easy to adopt and use because Restorative Practice builds on skills that everyone has and provides a simple framework for using those skills more consistently and effectively.

People who use Restorative Practice as a way of working report that it makes their work easier, more enjoyable and more effective. Parents report better relationships with their children, residents report better relationships with their neighbours, young people report increased confidence and better relationships with their teachers, their families, their friends and their peers.

Established benefits include reduced workplace conflicts and school disciplinary incidents, improved staff morale, and higher satisfaction and reduced re-offending in criminal justice.
